I'm positive I'm not the only one who has had this issue. I'm a Tab-o-holic. I use tabs constantly when browsing. Often to much. When right clicking on a link to open in a new tab, "Bookmark" is to close to "Open Link in New Tab". As a result, it's easy to select the wrong one by mistake... creating bookmark lists that get rather long :-( My suggestion is to move it down lower. It wouldn't be unorthodox. IE has it second to last item in the menu. Current Menu: +--------------------------+ Open Link in New Window Open Link in New Tab +--------------------------+ Bookmark This Link Save Link Target As... Copy Link Location +--------------------------+ Bookmark This Page Save Page As... Send Page... Select All... +--------------------------+ Properties +--------------------------+ Proposed: +--------------------------+ Open Link in New Window Open Link in New Tab +--------------------------+ Copy Link Location Bookmark This Link Save Link Target As... +--------------------------+ Bookmark This Page Save Page As... a true tab-o-holic uses ctrl-click or middle-click :) What is the real world use of the "Bookmark this link" menuitem? Why not remove it?
In all honesty, I don't think it's much use. I think the vast majority (borderline all) would visit the page first, before bookmarking. Making the option rather irrelevent. Perhaps 1 thing we can remove and clean up the menu a bit? The rest are rather useful. But I don't think this one is much (if any) use.
I have used this functionality, albeit somewhat infrequently. When I'm googling for something and I don't have time/patience/system resources to investigate prospective pages, I'll bookmark the links whose summaries look promising (not all links, not just a couple; an unpredictable number, over an unpredictable number of successive results pages). If you take it out, at least make it one of 1) a build-time switch, 2) an extension, 3) optional via. a hidden pref (heh, just kidding). I vote against its removal; as to its position in the menu, I have no opinion or suggestions to offer.
I'm not so sure removal is necessary. But relocating would be nice. Just a UI change... but would make a difference.
